Underworld:Evolution

Perfectly acceptable popcorn movie. There were a couple of times I wasn’t quite sure what was going on, but then something would blow up and distract me. Kate Beckinsale is quite good, Bill Nighy is excellent at everything he does, and Scott Speedman, well, ok, he’s pretty bad. And, in this movie at least, he looks like the lead singer of Creed, who is a giant tool. Overall, though, fun and mindless.

I wish movies like this would preach to someone other than the choir, but the choir says “amen”.

Remiss

Is what I’ve been. Haven’t added much in the past month. Maybe I can get some stuff up this weekend…

edit

So it doesn’t look like I added anything, but that’s because all the work was done in the Music and Movies pages, available under the pages heading on the right.

Strong performances, good movie. It left me wanting to know more about Harper Lee. Catherine Keener is excellent.

Clueless

Stuck at home, sick for days, need entertainment. Clueless is likeable and funny (and now old enough to be a classic, I guess), and it was $9.99 at Target. Score.

This movie seems a little dated and left me feeling pretty pissed off. Rosie Perez gets all crazy Flashdance in the opening credits, and that was the high point of the movie for me.

Do you hear what I hear?

This is pretty old news at this point, at least by internet standards, but I’ve been busy, so shut up. From the BBC:

“The ‘Mosquito’ sonic deterrent device was installed by the Wyvern Theatre in an attempt to stop groups of up to 100 youngsters from gathering around Theatre Square…
It was named the ‘Mosquito’ because the sound resembles that of a buzzing insect. And it works by emitting a harmless ultra sonic tone that generally can only be heard by people aged 25 and under. In trials, it has proven that the longer someone is exposed to the sound, the more annoying it becomes.”

Which of course leads to the question, can you hear it?

Give it a try here.

I can hear it, but it’s not very loud and not all that repellent (and this is with my headphones on 11), so I think it must be louder for the young-uns. The Lovely Wife can’t hear it at all. For the record, she’s 33 and I’m 36 and 4/12ths.

How about you?

We planted a tree.

The Mighty Oak.

It’ll be huge in about 30 years.

I’m rich, and so are you.

I own a house. Two cars. Two computers. I grow grass and plants in my yard because I like the way they look, and tending to them helps to fill my leisure time. My biggest problem at dinnertime is usually trying to decide what, out of all the options I have available to me, I want to eat. I’m approximately the 260 millionth richest person on Earth, which sounds kinda low, until you realize that makes about 5.7 BILLION people poorer than me.

How rich are you? >>

I’m loaded.
It’s official.
I’m the 260,173,914 richest person on earth.

If you don’t actively help the people below you, at least have the decency to not bitch about how tough you have it. That’ll piss me off. If you start in with how we need to cut welfare programs because of some anecdotal “welfare queen” story you heard once somewhere and accepted as the gospel, well that’ll make my fucking head explode. Best keep that to yourself. Enjoy what you’ve got, it’s more than most. Rant over. Carry on.
