Blame Ilse, then comment.

Ilse sent a link to me for the Top 5 First Dance Wedding Songs, at least as chosen by the Brits. This link led to the Top 5 Songs Limeys Want Played at their Funerals. (Who the hell is Robbie Williams, anyway?) All of this obviously begs the question, what are your 2 choices?

I was married just a few months ago and, when we were still organizing the event, before we decided against a first dance ritual, we had chosen A Kiss To Build a Dream On. Yes, it was in Sleepless in Seattle, but (*flashing my dork cred*), my first exposure to it was in the opening of Fallout 2. A sweet song, right sentiment for the occasion, and the uptempo version has a jazzy trumpet solo. Oh yeah, and Louis Armstrong. Good stuff all around.

Which just leaves the the funeral song. As a teenager, I probably would’ve wanted something depressing or angry, something like this or this. I would’ve wanted people to be sad and/or pissed, to sit around thinking about their own mortality and the futility of existence, and then maybe go kill themselves. I was a really, really annoying teenager. Now, I’d really rather people get drunk and have some fun while sitting around thinking about the absurdity of existence, so something like the #3 song from the Limey’s list might be ok…

Your turn.
